The ABC’s Of Eyebrow Threading and Why It Could Be a Better Alternative for You

Your first eye-brow threading will feel like you’ve gone through a rite of passage. Seriously, it is such a convenient and cost-effective eyebrow art that those who visit Magical Waxing for their first threading always wonder why they never tried it sooner.

Eyebrow threading is an ancient hair removal technique with its roots in Asia. Those who are virgins to this cotton-twisting treatment are often in disbelief of how a string can singlehandedly shave off unorganized hairs. Others are curious about how it compares to waxing and what to expect on their first threading appointment at Magical Waxing. We’ll break it all down for you here.

How is it done?

During your threading appointment, your first consultation will be to decide on the final shape you want for your eyebrows. Our eyebrow therapist will then take a piece of thread and twist it on itself as she glides it along the eyebrow following a pattern that will lead to the agreed shape. You will feel like several pieces of hairs are being tweezed at once. It’s really a quick process that should take about 15 minutes for both eyebrows.

Advantages

  • Cleaner, More defined eyebrows – Threading is done on one eyelid at a time. As one side is being done you’ll be asked to pull your eyelids on the opposite direction so the therapist can remove the brow hairs more easily. Because only the hairs are being removed, it’s easier for the artist to remove even the tiniest hairs usually harder for waxing and tweezing to get hold of. Threading artists are also able to achieve a cleaner and more defined eyebrow shape while subjecting you to the minimum pain or discomfort.
  • No exposure to chemicals – People with sensitive ski, skin conditions or those on certain medications can jump on this natural and organic hair removal method as you won’t be exposed to even a dot of chemical. Acne medications like topical retinoid and Accutane can, for example, make a person more sensitive to methods like waxing. So dermatologists often recommend threading as opposed to waxing or microblading.
  • Less Pain – While threading is certainly uncomfortable for many people (especially first timers) it is less painful because the hair, and not the skin, is touched. Your skin might appear red but this is because the skin has been stimulated, which is different from waxing where some skin can be removed. The sensitivity may also cause eye watering and random sneezing, so don’t be surprised if this happens.

After How Long Will Your Brow Hair Grow Back?

Threading pulls the hair from the roots which means it will initially take two to four weeks before they grow back. You will find that after several appointments it might take longer for the hair to grow back because they are weakened, but this largely depends on your hair type.

What does it cost?

Eyebrow threading at Magical Waxing costs almost the same price as waxing. If you’re scared of the pain that accompanies waxing and can’t afford microblading then you’ll find that this offers the best value for your money.
