Whether you have a few stray chin hairs, a fine layer of upper-lip fuzz, or thicker hormonal regrowth along the jawline, professional facial waxing is still the most reliable, affordable, and skin-friendly way to deal with it. How facial waxing actually works

Wax adheres to the hair shaft, then is removed in the opposite direction of growth, pulling each hair out from the follicle bulb. Two types of wax are used at Magical Waxing depending on the area and skin type:

• Premium Italian hard wax — applied warm and allowed to set in under 30 seconds. It shrink-wraps around the hair without bonding to the skin, which means dramatically less pain and zero strip residue. Ideal for the upper lip, chin, sideburns and any sensitive areas.
• Nufree botanical hair-removal formula — a sugar-and-aloe-based formula applied at body temperature. Hypoallergenic, vegan, and safe for clients on mild retinoids or with reactive skin. We use Nu-Free for the cheeks, forehead and full-face waxing.

What facial waxing does to your skin (the good kind)

Wax acts as a mild physical exfoliant. As it lifts away, it takes a fine layer of dead surface cells with it, which is why so many clients comment that their foundation glides on more smoothly after a wax. Removing peach fuzz also reduces light scatter on the skin, so makeup looks crisper in photos and on video calls. For brides, content creators and TV professionals, a full-face wax 3–4 days before a shoot is one of the most under-rated tricks in the book.

• Upper lip: sharp but extremely brief — under one second per pull.
• Chin: 2/10 discomfort, often barely noticed.
• Sideburns/cheeks: 1/10 — fine vellus hair pulls easily.

Each method has a place. Threading is best for precise eyebrow sculpting because the cotton thread can isolate single hairs. Dermaplaning shaves off vellus hair with a surgical blade — instant results, but the hair returns within 5–10 days, and the blade does nothing about coarse hormonal hair. Laser hair removal eventually destroys the follicle, but requires 6–8 sessions at $75–$150 each, plus annual maintenance, and it does not work on light or grey facial hair. Waxing remains the best price-to-result ratio for most adults: long-lasting results, gradual thinning, works on every hair color, and starts at $8 per area.

Who should not wax their face

Skip waxing — or check with your dermatologist first — if you are: on Accutane (wait 6 months after final dose), pregnant in your first trimester (skin is hyper-sensitive), using prescription tretinoin (pause 5–7 days), recently sunburned, or have active cold sores or open acne in the area. We always patch-test new clients with sensitive skin.

Aftercare that actually matters

In the first 24 hours after a face wax: avoid sun exposure, hot showers/saunas, heavy makeup, fragranced products, and exfoliating acids. Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer (CeraVe or La Roche-Posay are great) and a thin layer of pure aloe if there's any redness. Most pinkness fades in 30–60 minutes. Day 2 onward you can resume your normal routine — including sunscreen, which is actually the single most important step to prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation.

How often Atlanta clients book

The sweet spot is every 3–4 weeks. Hair needs to be at least 1/8 inch for the wax to grip properly, so don't shave between visits.
