This guide breaks down which service is right for which goal, and how to combine them for the best result.

Threading vs. Waxing — the eternal debate

Threading is an ancient Indian and Persian technique using a twisted cotton thread to remove hair one at a time from the follicle. Waxing uses warm wax to remove rows of hair at once. Both produce clean results — the differences come down to:

• Precision: threading wins. Single-hair removal means sharper lines and no accidental over-removal.
• Speed for big areas: waxing wins. A full brow takes 10 min either way, but cheeks/sideburns are faster with wax.
• Skin sensitivity: threading wins. Nothing touches the skin — ideal for retinol users, rosacea-prone clients, or anyone who breaks out from wax.
• Hair regrowth: tied. Both pull from the root, so regrowth comes in finer over time.
• Pain: very personal — threading is a sting; waxing is a quick rip.

Most Magical Waxing brow clients eventually settle on threading once they try it. We do offer both at every location, so you can try each and decide.

Brow Tinting — what it actually does

Brow tinting is a 15-minute service in which a custom-blended semi-permanent vegetable dye is painted onto your brow hairs and allowed to develop for 5–10 minutes. The result is richer color and the appearance of fuller, denser brows because previously-invisible blonde or grey hairs are now visible. Tint lasts 2–4 weeks and is the easiest "wake up with brows" service we offer.

Henna Brows — for the microblading look without needles

Henna brows use a plant-based dye (henna powder) that stains both the brow hair AND the skin underneath. The skin stain creates a soft "filled in" effect — almost identical to microblading but completely non-invasive and lasting 1–2 weeks on skin (4–6 weeks on hair). Best for clients with sparse brows who want fullness without committing to a tattoo.

Brow Lamination — the "soap brow" service

Brow lamination is a relatively new service (popularized around 2019) that uses a gentle chemical relaxer to soften and reshape your brow hairs so they can be brushed up into a fluffy, uniform direction — the "Instagram brow" effect. Results last 6–8 weeks. Add a tint for $15 more and the lamination becomes truly transformative. Best for clients with unruly, downward- growing, or sparse brows.

Combining services — the smart way

Most of our regular brow clients run on a coordinated schedule:

• Every 3–4 weeks: threading or waxing for shape
• Every 4 weeks: brow tint refresh ($20)
• Every 6–8 weeks: brow lamination + tint ($60)
• As-needed: henna brows for special events ($45)

Brow mapping — how we choose your shape

Our brow stylists use a 3-point mapping technique:

• Start point: directly above the inner corner of the eye.
• Arch (peak): directly above the outer edge of the iris when looking straight ahead.
• Tail end point: on a 45° line from the outside of your nostril through the outer corner of your eye.

Then we customize for face shape: rounder faces get more arch, longer faces get flatter horizontal brows, oval faces can pull off almost any shape. The goal is always brows that look like better versions of your natural shape — not a stencil.

What to avoid before any brow service

Skip retinol/tretinoin for 5–7 days before tinting or lamination. Skip AHAs/BHAs for 48 hours. Don't tweeze for 7–10 days before — let the hair grow so your stylist can see the natural shape. Don't get a brow tint or lamination if you've had a chemical peel in the past 7 days.

Aftercare — how to make brow services last

For tinting: avoid water for 12 hours, then skip oil-based cleansers near the brows. For lamination: no water for 24 hours, brush daily with a clean spoolie, and use a brow growth oil (castor or peptide-based) to keep the relaxed hair healthy. For henna brows: no water for 12 hours, no oil-based products for the first week. For threading/waxing: avoid heat, sweat and touching the area for 24 hours; apply aloe if there's any redness.
